Captain Cody Van Lierop Accepts Scholarship

The Victoria Grizzlies are pleased to announce that Captain Cody Van Lierop has accepted a scholarship and committed to play for the University of Ottawa next season.

Alumnus Van Lierop spent three seasons with the Grizzlies and in 176 regular season and playoff games he amassed 11 goals and 65 points. The hard-nosed defenseman, despite having good offensive numbers, will be most remembered by Grizzlies fans as a hard hitting shut down defenseman that came to play every night.

Van Lierop came to the Grizzlies via the Lake Forest Academy in Chicago and was also captain during his final season there. It is somewhat of a homecoming for the blueliner from Sutton West, Ontario as he will be playing in his home province for the first time in five seasons.

“Cody will be a great addition to the U of O. You can’t really put into words how valuable a player like Cody is to his hockey team. He works extremely hard and is a solid leader on and off the ice. We wish him all the best.” said Grizzlies Head Coach/GM Craig Didmon.
