ROBERTSON RECOVERING FROM SURGERY
September 13, 2009 Victoria Grizzlies - The Victoria Grizzlies recently appointed assistant captain Sean Robertson is resting in a Nanaimo area hospital tonight after an injury that occurred last night on the BCHL's opening night in Nanaimo as the Clippers opened the season against the visiting Grizzlies.
With less than a minute to go in the second period Robertson was chasing a puck in his own end and being chased by ex-Grizzlies Cody Bremner. Sean went awkwardly into the boards with Bremner in pursuit and raised his knee to absorb the crash into the boards. The impact was so great that it broke Robertson's right femur. Play was suspended and teams went to the dressing rooms while Robertson was taken to the Clippers medical room.
After speaking with the Robertson family they concurred the hit was not malicious in anyway and both families have been friends for years and our only thoughts are with Sean’s recovery. We were at the game and witnessed the incident.
Sean had successful surgery last evening to his right femur and is expected to have a full recovery and to continue his quest of receiving an NCAA scholarship.
The Robertson’s would like to thank the Victoria Grizzlies owner Len Barrie who met Sean in the Clipper’s medical room and stayed by his side speaking and comforting him all evening until surgery around 3am. Len and Grizzlies head coach Victor Gervais who is traveling with the team to Powell River as they play the Kings tonight have been in constant communication with the family all day today.
Also the Clippers medical staff who at this time we believe to be led by the Clippers Doctor Steve Beerman who was at the hospital still at 3am and who also helped prepare Sean for surgery as well as visited him this morning at 8am were absolutely wonderful.
Finally to the Clippers staff led by Mr. Bill Bestwick who visited Sean in the hospital at 2am and also again today. They have been first class since this accident happened even taking care of getting a hotel room for the family to stay close to Sean.
Sean is expected to stay in hospital till Tuesday or Wednesday where then he will return to the Robertson farm in Cobble Hill for a couple of weeks of rest until his therapy begins. Sean has no cartilage or ligament damage so his recovery will be focused on the femur.
The Grizzlies wish Sean a quick and successful recovery and would like to thank the family for taking the time to update all the concerned Grizzlies staff, ownership, volunteers and fans.
