Goaltender Ryan Holfeld is at the top of his game for the Victoria Grizzlies.

One night after recording a 4-0 B.C. Hockey League shutout against the Merritt Centennials, Holfeld duplicated the feat last night before 869 fans at the Sunwave Centre as the Grizz blanked the Salmon Arm Silverbacks 4-0. Holfeld, the game’s first star, made 26 saves.

The Grizz jumped into a 3-0 first-period lead as hot Dustin Mowrey scored twice and Derek Bacon added the other. Mowrey now has a team-leading 25 goals and 18 points in the last nine games. Mowrey scored his second goal on the power play.

Gregory Simpson completed the scoring for Victoria in the third period. Mowrey and Victoria captain Jordan Heywood were the other stars of the game.

Tyler Gubb, a former Victoria player, had several good scoring chances for Salmon Arm, including a second-period penalty shot.

The Grizzlies, fourth in the Coastal Conference, now have a record of 19-127 for 45 points, three behind the Powell River Kings.

Victoria handed Salmon Arm its first shutout loss of the season while keeping the Silverbacks winless in three games. Salmon Arm’s record drops to 19-14-4 for fourth place in the Interior Conference.

The Grizzlies have tonight off before concluding the four-game road trip tomorrow in Vernon against the Vipers and Saturday in Trail against the Smoke Eaters.

The Vipers have the best record in the league at 31-22. Vernon won the RBC Cup national Junior A title last year at Bear Mountain Arena.

The Grizz are then off until Jan. 2 when they travel to Nanaimo to play the Clippers at Frank Crane Arena.

The next home contest at Bear Mountain Arena is Jan. 5 against the Clippers. Game time is 7:15 p.m.
