GRIZZLIES START ROAD TRIP ON WRONG FOOTFebruary 04, 2010 ©Times Colonist - The Victoria Grizzlies spent a long day driving to Westside yesterday, and it turned into an even longer evening. The Grizzlies gave up two goals early in the first period, Westside added another pair in the third period and Victoria opened their four-game B.C. Hockey League road trip with a 4-0 loss. The Warriors have gone somewhat under the radar in the Interior Conference this season, hidden among the shadows of Vernon and Penticton, but they’ve racked up 37 victories for their third-place standing. In comparison, the Grizzlies are tied with Langley for third place in the Coastal Conference with a record of 28-16-2-6. Yesterday, the Warriors obviously wanted to get a jump before the Grizzlies found their road legs, and the strategy paid off. By the game’s six-minute mark, both Grayson Downing and Cam Reid had scored for the Warriors, while Westside outshot the Grizzlies 20-8 in the first period. The Grizzlies recovered their energy to get more pucks to the net in the second period, but were unable to score on Warriors goaltender Kevin Jebson. Any thought of a third-period recovery ended when Quinn Gould and Alex Grieve scored for the Warriors. The Grizzlies continue their road trip tonight in Quesnel, then take a day off and wind up the trip visiting the Prince George Spruce Kings on Saturday and the Williams Lake Timberwolves on Sunday. The T-Wolves will also be the opposition for Victoria’s next home game on Feb. 12.
