The Victoria Grizzlies won a barn-burner in Quesnel last night.

Storming back from a two-goal deficit, the Grizzlies defeated the Millionaires 4-3 on a goal by Joel Lowry, three minutes into the extra frame.

The Grizzlies (29-16-2-6) opened their B.C. Hockey League road trip with a 4-0 loss in Westside. It wasn’t a good start for a team hoping to gain Coastal Conference ground on the second-place Powell River Kings, who beat Vernon 3-2 in overtime yesterday, but Victoria kept pace.

Quesnel’s Darick SteMarie found the net at 8:38 of the opening period for the Millionaires (18-30-05), who are trying to catch Merritt for fifth place in the Interior Conference.

Dylan Nowakowski, shorthanded, tied it for Victoria at 8:17 of the second period, but the Grizzlies were down 3-1 by the end of the second, thanks to goals by Joshua Desmarais and Clayton Chessa.

The Grizzlies started the comeback, with a power-play goal by Mike Tebbutt at 1:20, and it was a wild third period from then on. With defenceman Brad Pawlowski playing set-up man — he assisted on the last three Victoria goals — Madison Dias tied it up with the man advantage, with less than two minutes to play.

The Grizzlies went on a pressure-packed effort in OT and capped it with Lowry’s goal, from Alex Allan and Pawlowski.

Victoria’s road journey continues in Prince George tomorrow and Williams Lake on Sunday.
