GRIZZLIES SURVIVE WILD ONE IN P.G.February 07, 2010 Sharie Epp ©Times Colonist - Pucks flew with wild abandon in Prince George, and Victoria rookie Dylan Nowakowski lassoed four of them, as the Grizzlies defeated the Spruce Kings 8-5 last night. The Grizzlies (30-16-2-6) wind up their B.C. Hockey League Interior road trip today, with a noon face off in Williams Lake. After losing the first of their four road games 4-0 to Westside on Wednesday, the Grizzlies mounted a thirdperiod comeback to down Quesnel 4-3 in overtime on Thursday. It was an lategame effort the coaches hoped the team would carry into Prince George. “The last few games we’ve almost been a little disinterested, a little lacklustre, until the third period,” assistant coach Dean Whitney said in an Internet interview. “We want to come out with energy.” Energy is exactly what the Grizzlies had against the Spruce Kings, zipping out to a 3-1 lead in the first period. Nowakowski got it rolling at 7:30. “Dylan works hard every game, every day in practice,” coach Victor Gervais said. Sam Muchalla tied it for Prince George, but Wesley Myron and Dustin Mowrey put Victoria up by two. It seemed the Spruce Kings wanted to give Gervais a big welcome back to his hometown. Nick DeSousa and Zac Rasmussen sandwiched Nowakowski’s second, and the score was 4-3, after 20 minutes. RJay Berra and Nowakowski exchanged goals in the second. Zac Rasmussen tied it for the Spruce Kings in the third, and the Grizzlies killed a four-minute P.G. power play, before Alex Allan, Mowrey, and Nowakowski, with an empty-netter, put the game away.
