Victoria, BC – The Grizzlies raised $5660 to benefit men’s health during the month of November and also hosted a special Movember Hockey Heroes night and jersey auction sponsored by Island Savings, a division of First West Credit Union.
Grizzlies fans bid on the Island Savings Men’s Health jerseys during the Grizzlies home games and then the lucky winning bidder was handed the jersey right off the player’s backs in an on-ice presentation. Fifty percent of the proceeds raised from the jersey auction was donated to support local men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer and their families.
Grizzlies players and staff are also grew their moustaches and posted photos of their progress on the Movember website to raise money for the Movember Foundation.
“We felt this was a very important campaign for our players to participate in. Men’s health issues have impacted so many of our families personally so this was a great opportunity for our boys to help out and give back,” said Grizzlies Head Coach and GM Craig Didmon.
