Colwood, BC ~ The Cowichan Valley Capitals came from behind on Saturday night in the third period to knock off the Victoria Grizzlies 4-2 at the Q Centre in Colwood.
Cowichan jumped ahead in the first half on the opening frame thanks to a nice passing play being finished off by Massimo Fazio (2). Tristan Gravenor and Tyler Rowland got the assists on that play with the visitors going tik-tac-toe to the back door.
Victoria answered back on a filthy goal from Artur Gross (2) who carried the puck into the zone on the right wing and beat a defenseman before finding the top left corner of the goal to tie the game heading into the first intermission.
The Grizzlies got their first lead late in the second on Sam Rousseau’s ninth goal of the year. At 17:14 Artur Gross got in on the left wing and sent it across for Rousseau to one time home for a perfectly executed two-on-one.
In the third period Victoria looked like all was well, however they would be their own worst enemy when Evan Stastny scored on his own net off a d-zone draw. Cowichan used the momentum to add another less than a minute and a half later off the stick of Cam Charron (2). Slade Firkus (3) got an empty netter at 19:43 to put the game to bed.
Victoria has now lost three of their last four games and will head into next weekend against the Powell River Kings at home on Friday and than on the road on Sunday looking for some answers.
Paolo Frasca was once again spectacular for the Grizzlies, making 41 saves on 44 shots. Rhett Stoesser made 26 saves on 28 Grizzlies shots.
