Victoria, BC ~ The Victoria Grizzlies (and some Teddy Bears) aim to put on a show for their biggest night of the year this afternoon at 2:00 p.m. for their annual Teddy Bear Toss game against the Langley Rivermen at the Q Centre in Colwood.
Victoria is coming off an 8-5 win over the Powell River Kings last night, and they should have no trouble getting motivated for this one, as a crowd well over 2,000 is expected at the Q Centre this afternoon to celebrate holiday cheer and support local youth & families in need during the Christmas season. Add to that Victoria played a subpar third period against a weak Powell River team last night (got outscored 4-1), and we can almost be certain they will have plenty to prove when the puck drops.
Victoria now sits fourth in the Coastal East Division with a 13-9-0 record; however, they have played one fewer game than both Nanaimo (13-8-2) and Alberni Valley (12-8-3), and two fewer than Cowichan Valley (17-6-1). Langley, on the other hand, comes into tonight at third in the Coastal East with an 11-12-0 line with a -9 goal differential.
The Rivermen are fresh off a 3-2 victory over the Nanaimo Clippers last night at the Frank Crane Arena in Nanaimo, while they were in Alberni Valley on Wednesday night, where they fell 4-3 in the Bulldogs’ own Teddy Bear Toss night. Victoria must have Aaron Reierson circled on the Rivermen’s lineup sheet, as the Alaska-Anchorage committed forward is riding an 11-game point streak coming into today’s contest. The native of Moorhead, Minnesota, has 15 goals and 21 points in that span.
