Bauer BCHL Showcase starts today in Chilliwack

The seventh Bauer BCHL Showcase begins today at Prospera Centre in Chilliwack with six games on the agenda starting with a 10 a.m. matchup between the Penticton Vees and Surrey Eagles.

There are six games on the slate for today, six more on Friday and six Saturday starting with the Prospects Game featuring future Junior hockey talent and some of the top 2003- and 2004-born players in B.C.

Again, a large contingent of scouts from the college and professional ranks are expected on hand. As of Wednesday afternoon, a record number of scouts were fully registered for the Showcase with dozens more expected on hand for parts of the three-day event.

Since the inception of the Showcase in 2012, there have been 24 participants that have gone on to be selected in the NHL Entry Draft. The BCHL matched a record with seven players selected in the draft this past June and established a new mark with 161 college-committed players for the 2017-18 season.

With the 2019 NHL Entry Draft in Vancouver, the BCHL is hopeful there will be more young talent from the league scooped up by NHL clubs. Foremost on that list so far is Victoria Grizzlies captain Alex Newhook who has been projected as a first-round selection. Victoria takes on the Merritt Centennials Thursday night at 7 p.m.

All the game results will be available on the BCHL website and all league social media channels (@GoBCHL) will have content.

Tickets for the Showcase are $18 for an adult day pass and $10 for youth.
