Bulldogs Host Grizzlies In Island Rivalry Rehash

Port Alberni, BC ~ The Victoria Grizzlies travel north and visit the Alberni Valley Bulldogs tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the Alberni Valley Multiplex in an all-Coastal Conference West Division clash.

Victoria (13-12-0) is hot on the heels of a tough week in which they lost three games in six days (Langley and Prince George twice), making tonight have a little extra hang on it, especially against a division rival they are jousting with in the standings. Alberni Valley (12-10-3) also had a tough weekend. They went out on the road to the Interior and first lost 7-1 to West Kelowna, before falling 4-2 the following evening in Salmon Arm. They did, however, have a very impressive month of November, going 7-1-2.

Scoring has been strong for Victoria, who are scoring 4.83 goals per game over their last six games. Unfortunately for them, there are two sides of the puck, and the other one hasn’t been too clean as of late. In that same six-game span, they are giving up 5.5 goals per game. Tonight will be a good opportunity for them to try and stop the bleeding while also getting back to winning ways.

The Grizzlies will almost certainly look to their three all-star forwards to lead the charge against a very strong Bulldogs team. Samuel Rousseau (14 goals, 27 points) was named an alternate captain for Team Canada BCHL several weeks ago, but this past Tuesday, the league office also announced Landon Mackie (8 goals, 25 points) as a part of the Canadian squad, while Max Silver (15 goals, 24 points) will be their counterpart on Team World BCHL. Those three will be the men to watch for the boys in black and gold, but the spread-out nature of their offence should not be forgotten. They now have 14 players with at least 10 points on the roster.

On the other end of the ice, watch out for the current league-leading scorer, Jacob Terpstra, who has decided to tear the BC Hockey League apart in his third and final season. The Michigan native and Alaska-Anchorage commit has a whopping 16 goals and 36 points in 25 games this season. He was held pointless over the weekend on the road in a very rare fashion.

With a win tonight and a Nanaimo loss against Surrey, Victoria could see itself jump up to being tied for second spot in the division. That should be plenty of motivation to get them off the bus with extra spring in their step.

Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m., with the game being streamed live on FloHockey with a paid subscription or for free to listen to on the Grizzlies Audio Streaming App on Mixlr with Tom Wilke.
