Bulldogs Take Grizzlies Home Opener

 

Victoria, BC ~ The Alberni Valley Bulldogs handed Victoria a 4-0 shutout loss on Friday night at the Q Centre in Colwood to spoil the Grizzlies home opener.

 

The Bulldogs got off on the front foot just over five minutes into the game when Eric Lund (2) opening the scoring on a nifty tip in front of the goal. They added a second under two minutes later when Kai Matthew ripped a wrist shot into the top left corner for his fourth of the young season.

 

There was no scoring in the second period, but Victoria was gift wrapped a golden chance to get back into the game with three powerplays in the first 15 minutes but they mustered just two shots between the trio of man advantages and didn’t seem to be on the same page.

 

Jacob Terpstra all but ended it in the opening minute of the third period on a sharp angled shot from the far boards that was perfectly placed to fool Carter Capton in the Grizzlies crease. Charlie Vincent added insult to injury with his first of the year four and a half minutes later unassisted.

 

The Bulldogs outshot Victoria 35 to 25 on Friday night and gave Victoria plenty to ponder and let stew for a Saturday that will be spent out of action. The yare back at it at home on Sunday afternoon for a 2:00 pm puck drop against the Powell River Kings.
