The Victoria Grizzlies dropped their fifth straight on Tuesday night at the hands of the Chilliwack Chiefs by a score of 8-2 at the Q Centre in front of 1,156 fans.
Victoria jumped out to a lead at 12:50 of the first when Chase Pirtle’s 23rd of the season, opened the scoresheet barrage. Nico Grabas (16th) tied it four minutes later on the power play for Chilliwack before Victoria’s Tom Molson (15th) pulled off a highlight reel goal to regain the advantage.
That was however as close as the Grizzlies would come on Tuesday evening as the Chiefs would score seven straight to follow beginning with two in 45 seconds to close out the first from Mateo Mrsic (31st) and Connor Dick (11th).
The Grizzlies would outshoot the Chiefs 19-10 in the second however it was the visitors that did all of the scoring. Dustin Renas (7th) and Caleb Malholtra (6th) did the damage making it 5-2 after 40.
In the third period the Chiefs added insult to injury with three more unanswered from Dwayne Jean Jr (4th), Connor Arsenault (7th) and Brendyn Van Oene (12th). That finished the game with an 8-2 score line.
Mateo Mrsic took home first star of the game with a goal and two assists while Ty Campbell was named second star with two assists. Caleb Malholtra’s goal and assist netted him third star.
Oliver Auyeung-Ashton made 31 saves on 39 shots for the Grizzlies while Quentin Miller made 37 saves on 39 shots for the Chiefs.
