Nanaimo, BC ~ The Nanaimo Clippers got three unanswered goals in the opening 30 minutes to hold off the Victoria Grizzlies 3-0 on Friday night at the Frank Crane Arena in Nanaimo.
Elliot Perreault (9) opened the scoring at 7:17 of the first period to give the home side a lead heading into the first intermission.
Antoine Cormier (2) and Harrison Boldt (3) got tallies at 2:42 and 6:09 of the second to round out the scoring on Friday night for a tough evening for the Grizzlies, who were outshot 34-26 in the contest.
A penalty-filled third period followed, including Michael Dowdall getting involved in a fight with Justin Collins, who was left bloodied and needing repairs. Landen Ward and Niklas Karjalainen were both tossed from the game as well.
Carter Capton was pulled after the third Clippers goal, making 10 saves on 13 shots. Paolo Frasca came on in relief and made 21 saves on 21 shots. Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau was perfect in the Clippers’ crease.
Victoria is back in action tomorrow night at the Q Centre at 6:00 p.m. against the Cowichan Valley Capitals.
