Dayne Finnson came to the Victoria Grizzlies at the beginning of this season via Salisbury Prep School in Connecticut. Dayne becoming a Grizzlies player may not have happened had it not been for an urgent request by former Salisbury teammate and current veteran defenseman Brett Stirling. At the end of last season, during his exit interview, Brett pleaded with the Grizzlies coaching and scouting staff to give the 5’10 175 lb defenseman a shot with the team next year.

Although he played the last two seasons in Connecticut, Finnson hails from Arborg, Manitoba, and is quite proud of his Canadian heritage and farming roots. The family farm that he grew up on is just under 3000 acres in size; with most of their acreage is used for grain and they have a fair amount of pasture for cattle. During the off season, who needs a workout routine when you can spend the summer baling, swathing, combining and packing hay?

“Dayne has been an exceptional addition for us this season, he has walked in and played like a veteran from the start, he can play in all situations and is extremely reliable on the back end,”- stated HC/GM Craig Didmon, “he makes very intelligent plays all over the ice, and is a fierce competitor who steps up to the challenge”.

The Victoria Grizzlies organization is certainly ecstatic to have this farm boy manning the blueline for this season and next.
