Denny Monahan Commits to Princeton University

 

Victoria, BC ~ The Victoria Grizzlies announced on Sunday afternoon that 2006 born defenseman Denny Monahan has committed to Princeton University.

 

Denny joined the Grizzlies from Lovell Academy in Massachusetts where he played U16 AAA and U18 AAA hockey. Monahan has more than exceeded expectations for Victoria this year as an 18 year old rookie playing key minutes and leading the team with a staggering +23 plus/minus. 

 

“Denny is very deserving of this opportunity for Princeton University,” said Grizzlies Associate Coach & Director of Player Personnel Geoff Grimwood. “Denny represents the type of player and person we want to have here in Victoria. He is going to an incredible university and hockey program. We couldn’t be more excited for him.”

 

Monahan will join three other current Grizzlies who are currently committed to Princeton. Those include; 2005 born forwards Seamus Latta and Malcolm Green and also 2006 born defenseman Dan D’Alessandro. Victoria also graduated 2003 born forward & Courtenay product Luc Pelletier to Princeton last year.

 

“I am very excited for this opportunity with Princeton University,” said Denny. “I am excited for the opportunity to grow as a player and person with the program and culture they have built.”

 

The Grizzlies now bolster a roster with 11 NCAA committed players.

 

Victoria is back in action next weekend against Nanaimo at home on Friday and then in Cowichan Valley on Saturday. They have picked up points in eight straight games including six wins in that span. Tickets are AVAILABLE HERE for Friday night.

Grizzlies 20 year old forward and Victoria native Julian Cull was suspended one game on Sunday morning for his minor penalty for boarding on Saturday night was increased to a major penalty and game misconduct upon review.
