Coquitlam, BC ~ The Coquitlam Express scored three unanswered in a span of five minutes late in the third period to come from behind and steal a victory from the Victoria Grizzlies on both of their first games of the year.
The Express jumped out to a a lead five minutes in on a goal from Justin Ivanusec before Victoria tied it five minutes later on Owen Warnick’s first goal in the BCHL. The Northern Michigan committed forward was able to find a hole in Express netminder Ryan Parker.
In the second period Sam Rousseau gave Victoria a lead after ripping a powerplay wrist shot home to stake Victoria to a lead heading to the third.
Tayjon Street took advantage of a breakaway chance for the Grizzlies eight minutes into the third period, beating Parker through the legs but it would be all Coquitlam from there.
The home side got goals from Christian Maro, Nolan Dupont and Nolan Flynn within five minutes of each other from 12:42 to 17:15 to seal the game in a wild flip of the script that saw Victoria’s lead slip right in front of their eyes.
Carter Capton was very good for Victoria, making 38 saves on 42 shots in the Grizzly goal while Ryan Parker made 26 saves on 29 shots for the Express.
Victoria is back in action at 4:00 PM PST tomorrow night from the South Surrey Arena looking to pick up their first win of the season.
