Coquitlam, BC ~ The Coquitlam Express held off a relentless Grizzlies barrage to defeat the visitors 1-0 in overtime and bring the series to a two game tie after four games on Wednesday night from the Poirier Sport & Leisure Centre.
The first period saw Victoria well control the run of play looking heavily structured and hemming the Express in their zone for expended periods. They would not however find a way to beat Coquitlam netminder Andrew Ness on 22 shots. Coquitlam mustered just five in the opening frame.
Victoria would again control the run of play in the second period, outshooting Coquitlam 17-10. They looked like they had taken the lead late when Reegan Hiscock beat a downed Andrew Ness however the play would go to review and it was deemed that Malcolm Green was guilty of goaltender interference. Thus the goal was disallowed and the game still was without score after 40 minutes.
Another tight period would follow follow both teams going 0/2 on the man advantage in the third however there was still no scoring to report with Victoria outshooting Coquitlam 61-23 after 60 minutes.
Jack Sullivan (2) ended the game for Coquitlam 1:17 into overtime with a harmless looking shot beating Kyle Kelsey under the blocker. Sullivan stole in his own zone and carried the length of the ice, letting a wrister go from range which nestled itself into the bottom right corner to bring the game to a close.
The series is now 2-2 heading back to Victoria on Friday night at 7:00 PM with tickets available by CLICKING HERE.
