Chilliwack, BC ~ The Victoria Grizzlies and Chilliwack Chiefs go to war again this evening in game two of the Coastal Conference Final with the Grizzlies leading the best-of-seven series 1-0 following a 2-1 victory last night.
For the third straight series Victoria has jumped ahead after game one and last night was their second time in a row doing so on enemy territory. The will hope that tonight they will be able to much of the same that they did against Cowichan which was go up 2-0 in the series beginning on the row and putting themselves in excellent position.
They will certainly see Chilliwack’s best tonight who played a very strong game last night, however it was an undisciplined penalty late in the third period that came back to bite them ion the series opener which saw Victoria go ahead with just over a minute left on the game clock while on the power play. The Chiefs will need to be more disciplined moving forward and not taking after whistle penalties against a Grizzlies team that has the best power play in the BCHL in the playoffs at 34.6%.
Victoria on the other hand will have to play without their number one D-man Easton Kovacs who was assessed a five minute major and game misconduct at the 20:00 mark of the third period. Chilliwack’s Caleb Elfering cross checked Kovacs in the back in the dying seconds out of frustration but the Victoria pivot responded with a cross check up high that resulted in a one game suspension from the BCHL Department of Player Safety. Chilliwack’s Nico Grabas was also assessed a one game suspension from the DOPS for unsportsmanlike conduct after leaving the bench after the final buzzer to stir things up.
If last night’s temperature and game play was any indication of how this Coastal Conference Final will continue on, than you can expect a highly intense and hate filled remaining games.
