Victoria, BC ~ The Victoria Grizzlies close out their seven game season series with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs tonight from the Q Centre hoping to build from a resounding 7-2 win from the Alberni Valley Multiplex yesterday evening.
Fan appreciation night usually means a good time for fans, but it also means that the post season is just around the corner. That matter of fact makes last night’s win for the Grizzlies mean just that much more. They had lost five in a row before that meaning the resiliency they had to snap out of their stupor and show plenty of fight (quite literally) will be looked for in their final three games.
Tom Molson was a major contributor for the “Grizz” yesterday evening as he banked his 16th and 17th tallies of the season. The Montreal, Quebec native now has eight markers in his last nine games while snaring 12 points in that span as well. Tobias Pitka was also notable last night for the Grizzlies picking up a goal and an assist. The big Slovakian now has four goals and 10 points against the Bulldogs this year in just six games.
Victoria leads their season series with the Bulldogs 5-1 including two wins here on home soil. Victoria stomped Alberni 9-3 at their home opener on September 27th before defeating them two months later 3-0 from the Q. The Grizzlies are hoping that will bode well for them this evening against a team they have put up 18 goals against in their last three meetings. The South Island squad has outscored Alberni Valley 33-16 this season.
Tonight, will also have the eyes of many on it as last night’s meeting from the Alberni Valley Multiplex include two memorable scraps to close out the night. First it was Victoria alternate captain and twenty-year-old; Easton Kovacs making the Bulldogs captain Zeke Nicholson regret forcing him into a fight after a Bulldogs consolation goal. Then off the ensuing draw Grizzlies 17-year-old rookie Max Silver held his own against veteran feisty 20-year-old scrapper Brady McIsaac. Both of those two landed some heavy blows however they shall both be suspended tonight for a “staged fight”.
Only time will tell if there will be carry over into tonight’s final meeting between the two during the regular season in what could very well be a first-round matchup.
Tickets are available for tonight at victoriagrizzlies.com/tickets to reserve your seat to see the Grizzlies one last time before the march to the 2025 Fred Page Cup.
