Victoria, BC ~ The Victoria Grizzlies host the Cowichan Valley Capitals tonight at 7:00 p.m., aiming at getting themselves on the board in this best-of-seven series.
After two games up in Cowichan, the Capitals hold a 2-0 series lead over their South Island counterparts, making tonight as important as one could imagine. The Capitals took game one on Friday night in 5-1 before holding on for a 4-2 win on Saturday night as well. The two games have been incredibly close, with the narrowest of margins being the difference. Game one had a D-zone giveaway for the Grizzlies, changing the game when they were down 2-1 with less than ten minutes left, while game two was influenced by the Grizzlies missing two 2-on-1 chances in the first period to go up 2-0. To no one’s surprise, the first two have come down to the wire.
Levi Eiter netted two tallies for the Grizzlies on Saturday night, but the offense has been sputtering through three games. Victoria hasn’t been able to create much against a Cowichan team that gave up just 159 goals in the regular season. Victoria has done a nice job of nullifying most of the Cowichan offense, especially off the rush. D-zone exits and cleanouts will be an area to clean up if they want a shot at coming back in the series.
All but just two of the Capital skaters have registered a point in the opening two games, showcasing their ability to get scoring up and down the lineup. Brendyn Van Oene leads the way with three points (two goals and one assist), and he is slotted in on their fourth line.
Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m. at the Q Centre in Colwood tonight, with the Grizzlies hoping for a big crowd to help urge them to victory! Tickets are on sale by CLICKING HERE.
