Victoria, BC ~ The Victoria Grizzlies are back on home ice tonight as they host the Alberni Valley Bulldogs at the Q Centre, with puck drop set for 7:00 PM.ย
Itโs the third meeting of the season between these two Island rivals, with the Grizzlies holding a 1-1 record in their previous encounters. Victoria dominated in the first matchup with a 9-3 win in their home opener, but fell short in a tight 4-3 loss in Port Alberniย in their second meeting. That loss however was marred by questionable officiating.
The Bulldogs, currently sitting second in the Coastal Conference, have struggled on the road this season, holding the leagueโs second worst road record. That could bode well for the Grizzlies, who have been solid at home this season and are coming off a successful road trip, having earned 4 out of a possible 6 points and in their last five games are (3-1-1).ย
While the Grizzlies have been clicking recently, theyโll be without one of their key contributors up front for tonight’s game. Forward Ryan Watt will serve a suspension after a spearing penalty in Saturday’s contest against Prince George. However, the team will see the return of forward Alex Hebblethwaite, who has missed the last four games due to an upper-body injury. His return will be a welcome boost to the lineup as the Grizzlies look to extend their strong play as of late.
With the Bulldogs struggling on the road and the Grizzlies seeming to be finding their rhythm after a tough first half of October, this is a prime opportunity for Victoria to pick up two important points and continue their climb in the conference standings. The Bulldogs have won five in a row however, four at home.ย
Fans can expect an exciting and fire filled matchup, and with the return of Hebblethwaite, the Grizzlies will certain have another offensive option.
