Victoria, BC ~ The Victoria Grizzlies announced on Wednesday morning that they have acquired six foot three, 210 pound netminder; Carter Capton in a trade with the Cranbrook Bucks in exchange for future considerations.
Carter, who spent two full season in Cranbrook from 2022-24, comes to Victoria after a season spend in the Alberta Junior Hockey League with the Camrose Kodiaks where he went 16-11-7 with a 2.88 GAA and .913 SV% in 34 games. He also joined the Vancouver Giants in the WHL for three games in late November where he went 1-1-0 in two starts and a relief appearance.
Carter, who hails from Lethbridge, Alberta, is the veteran of 38 games in the BCHL with the Cranbrook Bucks where he holds a 20-17-1 record and impressive 2.62 GAA and .916 SV%. “I think my experience in the BCHL has made me a better goalie,” said Capton, “I think seeing the best shooters everyday especially with the league being so much more open now has been awesome for me.”
The Grizzlies will look to that experience, namely him back stopping the Bucks to a near come from behind series win over the West Kelowna Warriors in 2024. With the Bucks down 3-0 in the series Carter willed the Bucks to a game seven which they would eventually lose, but that experience wasn’t lost on him. “That was easily the most fun I have had playing hockey. It gave me a new gear in my engine for sure,” he commented when asked about that series.
Carter will look to form a strong duo with young Grizzlies signed netminder Paolo Frasca for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
“I know how successful the Grizzlies have been and they way they are trending, they just keep going up,” Carter closed with. “I can’t wait to get out there.”
