Grizzlies Acquire Sam Ward From Vipers

Victoria, BC ~ Head Coach and General Manager Rylan Ferster, announced on Saturday morning that the Victoria Grizzlies have acquired 2005 born defenseman; Sam Ward from the Vernon Vipers in exchange for future considerations.

 

Sam joins the Grizzlies with quite the resume as he has spent extended periods in both the BCHL and the WHL with several teams in both leagues. Ward made his debut in junior hockey as a 16 year old in Merritt with the Centennials where he put up three goals and nine points in 37 games as a rookie. That year he was also teammates with current Grizzlies captain Jacksenn Hungle who was a 17 year old rookie.

 

Sam would then head to the Western Hockey League the following season where he got his feet wet with the Swift Current Broncos. As a 17 year old he would register one goal and three points in 33 appearances. The following season of 2023-24 (last year) he split time between Swift Current and Wenatchee of the WHL and totaled three goals and 13 points as w ell as 56 penalty minutes.

 

This year Sam has been with Wenatchee for several games before joining Vernon for 10 games where he had three points.

 

The nineteen year old is known for his good skating and physical play while standing at five foot nine and 170 pounds.
