Victoria, BC ~ The Victoria Grizzlies are proud to announce that alumni Tobias Pitka has been selected to represent Team Slovakia at the 2026 U20 World Junior Championships held in St. Paul, Minnesota, USA.
Tobias spent two years with the Grizzlies from 2023 to 2025, most notably playing a pivotal role in their 2025 run to the Coastal Conference Final. The Poprad, Slovakia native appeared in
87 regular season games with the Grizzlies while recording 20 goals and 57 points. He scored eight goals in the 2025 BCHL playoffs (17 games). Pitka was selected to the Slovak squad last year but did not appear in any games.
When he steps on the ice in late December, he will become the fourth Grizzly in six years to suit up at the prestigious World Juniors. The other three being: Alex Newhook (Grizzlies 2017-19, Team Canada 2021), Matthew Wood (Grizzlies 2020-22, Team Canada 2024) and Richard Baran (Grizzlies 2023-24, Team Slovakia 2025)
The organization is proud to see Tobias recognized in such a way after a fantastic start to his NCAA career at Northern Michigan and wishes him the best of luck in Minnesota!
