Grizzlies Claw Bulldogs To Split Weekend

Written by Tom Wilke.

Alberni Valley, BC ~ The Victoria Grizzlies got two unanswered goals during the second period to beat the Alberni Valley Bulldogs 3-2 on Saturday night from the dawg pound.

Victoria took the lead at 13:24 when Michael Dowdall (2) found the goal on a rebound on the top of the crease to put the visitors on top. Alberni Valley answered back two and a half minutes later on a power play goal from their captain Caden Tremblay to have the game knotted at one to one after twenty.

It was all Grizzlies in the second thanks to Max Silver (7) potting a powerplay goal at 13:50 before Artur Gross scored his first goal in North America with under five minutes to go and put Victoria up 3-1 heading to the third.

Alberni Valley franticly pressed in the third but the big story of the first five minutes of the final frame was Grizzlies rookie Parker MacDougall getting the better of Bulldogs forward Leim Smith in a fight.

The Bulldogs got a powerplay tally from BCHL leading scorer Jacob Terpstra to pull within one halfway through the third but Victoria would ride it out to to a win to improve to 8-5-0 on the season while Alberni drops to 5-6-1.

Victoria is back in action on Friday night in Nanaimo and than at home on Saturday night against Cowichan Valley.
