Coquitlam, BC ~ The Victoria Grizzlies defeated the Coquitlam Express handily 5-1 on Sunday night to punch their ticket to the second round.
After a fast moving first with no scoring, Victoria came to play in the second. They scored three unanswered goals, with two of which being by way of Chase Pirtle (3,4). They were carbon copy goals as they looked eerily similar with both being shots from the left side off the stick of Charles Cote tipped in by the Grizzlies sophomore.
With under five minutes to play in the period Reegan Hiscock (2) buried a no look centering feed from Seamus Latta to put the visitors up 3-0 after 40.
They would continue to pile on in the third when Tom Molson (3) found a rebound to make it a 4-0 game and all but end things.
Coquitlam would get one back on the powerplay at 8:33 thanks to Carson McGilney (3) however that was as close as they would come.
Tobias Pitka (4) into an empty net would ice the game with under five minutes remaining for a convincing 5-1 victory and 4-2 series win for the Grizzlies.
Victoria advances to the second round for the second year in a row and are still awaiting their second round opponent. Prince George defeated Chilliwack on Sunday night setting up a game seven on Tuesday night and the winner of that will determine Victoria’s opponent.
If Chilliwack (the first seed) defeat Prince George Tuesday night then Victoria will be in Cowichan Valley on Friday night for a series with the Capitals. If the eighth seed Spruce Kings win, Victoria will host Alberni Valley on Friday night for a meeting with the Bulldogs in the second round.
