Victoria, BC ~ Head Coach and GM Geoff Grimwood announced on Wednesday afternoon that the Victoria Grizzlies have signed 2005 born Swedish forward Vidar Blixt (pronounced Blix-t), for the upcoming 2025-26 BCHL season.
Blixt, who hails from Linkoping, Sweden, joins the Grizzlies from the Modo U20 program where he finished 2024-25 campaign as their third lead scorer with 18 goals and 35 points while finishing 10th in the Swedish U20 league with 86 penalty minutes. Many of those come as a result of his style of play which in his owns words can be described as, “Hard nosed and gritty. I hate to lose and I guess that is a part of it. I am just always competing and finishing hits. It is a joke that I was the most hated player in Swedish U20 hockey.”
Newly promoted Grizzlies Head Coach and GM Geoff Grimwood, promised this past week that the Grizzlies want to become heavier and more physical meaning that Blixt seems to fit the prefect mold of all those things while being able to put the puck in the back of the net.
Blixt, which mean lightning in English (making for Vidar’s nickname of “Blixt McQueen”), comes to North America with some familiarity as his older brother Hugo okayed in the USHL for a year before spending two years at Boston University and two years at Colorado College in the NCAA. “I have always looked up to my brother and he is a big reason why I want to take this path and spread my wings to leave Sweden and head to North America,” said Vidar, “He is my biggest role model and he has nothing but good things to say about the style of play in North America.”
The six foot tall and 185 pound forward looks to fit right into the Grizzlies lineup with some grit, leadership and scoring capability with the squad looking to take the next step after falling in the Conference Final this past season.
Welcome to Victoria Vidar!
