Nanaimo, BC ~ The Victoria Grizzlies held off a late attack from the Nanaimo Clippers to hold on for a 3-2 victory thanks to a Landon Mackie game winner.

Victoria started the game strong and Malcolm Green gave the Grizzlies the lead with his first of the year at 7:21 off a feed from Reegan Hiscock. Hiscock stole a puck and found Green through the near circle and his quick wrister beat Nanaimo goaltender, Chazz Nixon, short side under the blocker.

Reegan Hiscock would extend the Victoria lead on the powerplay at 15:45 as the Grizzlies were laying siege to the Clippers for a minute and a half and finally Hiscock found the goal. Chase Pirtle and Tobias Pitka got the assists.

The Clippers would score the lone goal of the second after a shot down the left side from Cole Lonsdale redirected into the top corner.

In the third, the Clippers would tie the game on the power play when Chase Hull found the top corner.

Landon Mackie was the hero tonight for the Grizzlies when he jumped on a rebound and beat Chazz Nixon making it 3-2. Dan D’Alessandro had the point shot that created the rebound and Julian Cull picked up the secondary assist.

Victoria locked things down on the back end and held off the late Nanaimo push to give themselves the victory and to improve to 5-0 on the year.

Malcolm Green took home third star of the game and Reegan Hiscock was awarded first star of the game with a goal and an assist.

Victoria will be in action again tomorrow night at 7:00 PM PT as they head up island to visit the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.
