GRIZZLIES PROUD TO HONOUR HARRY SMITH

History of the Trail Smoke Eaters and one of their most famous players. This legendary franchise has had many special moments in Canadian hockey history – perhaps none more famous than the 1961 World Championship that Trail won while representing Canada in Geneva.

Harry Smith was a special guest of the Grizzlies and dropped the ceremonial first puck. Harry was a star for Trail in late 1950's and 1960's and represented Canada many times at the World Championships. Harry is the only Canadian player ever to be named to the World Championship All Star team for three consecutive years. His personality and hockey skills made him a fan favorite whereever he played in Canada, the United States, and across Europe.

He was signed by the Detroit Red Wings and played several games for the Red Wings before returning to the Western Hockey League. Harry's son Jim also went on to play for the Red Wings. Harry is an honoured member of the Kelowna Sports Hall of Fame, the BC Sports Hall of Fame and the Hockey Hall of Fame, and he has become a successful businessman here on Vancouver Island.
