Chilliwack, BC ~ The Chilliwack Chiefs used a big third period to defeat the Victoria Grizzlies 5-2 on Saturday night from the Chilliwack Coliseum to tie the Coastal Conference Final best of seven series at one a piece heading back to Victoria
Victoria took a 1-0 lead before the five minute mark of the first when Reegan Hiscock (8) took a cross ice feed from Malcolm Green who had entered into the zone on the right wing. Hiscock one timed it across his body into the top left corner to put the visitors ahead.
Chilliwack answered back on the power play less than five minutes off the stick of Carter Anderson (5) who one timed a puck from the slot home. They would make it a one goal lead at 14:30 when Adam Boatter (3) had a puck bounce off his skate at the back door and in for a Chiefs lead heading to the first intermission.
That lead held through a powerplay filled second period that saw Victoria fail to convert on three man advantages and Chilliwack also get nothing on two chances. 2-1 Chiefs after forty minutes.
In the third period the Chiefs would break through and score three in the first ten minutes. First Mateo Mrsic (2) wired a shot home at 3:14 and then Dwayne Jean Jr. (3) lifted a puck top shelf to signal the end of the night for Grizzly netminder Oliver Auyeung-Ashton. The Chiefs welcomed Kyle Kelsey into the game in rude fashion, scoring on the power play at 7:41 to make it 5-1 thanks to Brady Milburn (7) tipping a puck in the slot.
Malcolm Green (4) got the Grizzlies within three with just over three minutes to go but it was to little to late and the Chiefs walked away with a victory in game two to tie the series 1-1.
The game saw Victoria go 0/5 on the power play and Chilliwack go 2/6, giving them the special teams battle advantage.
