Grizzlies Visit Rivermen To Close Out Mainland Trip

Langley, BC ~ The Victoria Grizzlies are looking to make it a perfect weekend as they meet with the Langley Rivermen for the first time this season.

Victoria is hoping to ride the high from a massive come-from-behind win over the Chilliwack Chiefs last night at the Chilliwack Coliseum. That game saw them be down 5-2 in the early stages of the third period, but score three times in 64 seconds to tie it before ending things in overtime on Matthew Jenken’s third of the season.

After last night’s win, they still sit third in the Coastal West Division with an 11-9-0 record, while ranking fourth overall in the Conference, coming into play on Saturday evening. Tonight’s opponent Langley Rivermen, load in at third in the Coastal East Division with a 10-10-0 record through twenty games.

The Riv have had no trouble scoring (3.75 goals per game), but defensively, it has been a struggle for the boys in blue and white. They sit 17th in the league, averaging 4.15 goals against per game. One might think goaltending would be the issue, but it certainly hasn’t been. Their crease has posted steady numbers through the first half of the season, while defensively, they give up more shots than anyone in the BCHL at just about 39 per contest.

Victoria’s top line of Sam Rousseau-Landon Mackie-Artur Gross was formidable last night, combining for four goals between the three of them. Rousseau finished the night with two goals, while Gross and Mackie both recorded a goal and two assists. They hope that trio will be one they can continue to look to for production moving forward.

Puck drop is at 5:00 p.m., with the game being streamed live on FloHockey with a paid subscription or for free to listen to on the Grizzlies Audio Streaming App on Mixlr with Tom Wilke.
