Duncan, BC ~ The Victoria Grizzlies got a hat trick overtime winner from Alex Hebblethwaite to take game two over the Cowichan Capitals and lead 2-0 in the best of seven series.

A slow starting game got its first goal at 8:30 thanks to Cowichan’s Luca Primerano (4) who was able to snap a one timer from in tight past Oliver Auyeung-Ashton to break the ice. That goal came by way of a nice feed from Hayden Russell.

Victoria tied the game at 13:56 on Alex Hebblethwaite’s first of the post season. Victoria was able to get the puck in deep, free it up on the forecheck and get a puck to the goal from Landon Mackie. The rebound found the stick of Alex Hebblethwaite who made no mistake about to make it level after the first period 1-1.

In the second Cowichan took a lead at 4:55 on Carter Dekay’s (2) screened point shot and then it was a two goal lead just over three minutes later thanks to Jack McAra (1) who had an empty goal to work with on a cross crease pass from Jake Gutwirth.

Victoria would get their powerplay at 13:53 and Alex Hebblethwaite’s second of the game pulled them within one heading into the second intermission.

Evan Stastny’s first BCHL goal tied the game in the third period for Victoria at 6:47 making for quite the memorable first tally.

The Grizzlies took the lead with two and a half minutes remaining after Reegan Hiscock (3)  gave them the lead however Cowichan would not be denied, tying things up with the net empty. Jake Gutwirth was able to beat Auyeung-Ashton short side and send the game to overtime.

Alex Hebblethwaite’s hat trick goal would end the game in overtime at 12:53 of the extra frame after a point shot from Sam Ward trickled through Dylan Krick and Hebblethwaite was in the perfect spot to poke it home.

Hebblethwaite’s game winner gave Victoria a 2-0 series lead heading back to the Q Centre.

Game three goes on Tuesday night at the Q Centre in Victoria at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available at grizzlies.goigniter.com.
