HUGHES NAMED POW

Victoria Grizzlies forward Riley Hughes has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Mar. 24, the league announced Monday.

The 2018 New York Rangers draft pick piled up one goal and six assists for seven points in Victoria’s four playoff games last week.

Hughes kicked off his week with a three-assist performance, two of which came on the power play, in the Grizzlies 5-0 win over the Powell River Kings in Game 3 of their second-round series. The next night, the 18-year-old netted his first goal of the playoffs to tie things up in the first period in an eventual 3-2 overtime loss in Game 4. Hughes was again a huge part of the offence in Game 5 back in Victoria, assisting on the Grizzlies first three goals, and was named second star in a 4-2 win over the Kings. He was held off the scoresheet in Game 6, a 4-2 Powell River win that forced a seventh and deciding game.

After his offensive outburst last week, the Westwood, Mass. native leads the BCHL playoffs with 13 assists and is fourth overall in points with 14.
