Victoria, BC ~ The Victoria Grizzlies had a bad third period bite them on Saturday night from the Q Centre as the Powell River Kings scored five unanswered in the final frame to pick up the victory.
There was no scoring in the first period and Victoria began the second frame by jumping ahead. Reegan Hiscock finished off a two on one play with Chase Pirtle to open the scoring at 0:54 before Tom Molson’s 13th at 5:29 gave them a multi goal lead. Dan D’Alessandro blocked a clearance attempt at the right point before he sent it to Molson at the goal line. His deke beat Powell River netminder, Vincent Lamberti, for a very clean finish.
The Kings came out in the third period and outshot the Grizzlies 22-12 who looked like the travel of the last two days caught up on them. Eliot Compton (6th) and Sam Grabner (2nd) scored in the first five minutes before Jake Westhaver (4th) gave them the lead at 15:51.
Victoria would head to the power play but a misplay at the Powell River blue line gave the Kings a short handed chance which was finished off by Jackson Potulny (5th). They would add an empty netter just over a minute later from Brendan Giles (12th).
Oliver Auyeung-Ashton made 47 saves on 51 shots for Victoria while Vincent Lamberti made 40 saves on 42 shots for Powell River. Max Jelavic took home third star with three assists, Brendan Giles the second star with a goal and an assist while the aforementioned Vincent Lamberti was the first star.
That third period was one to forget to Victoria who look ahead to next weekend when the Cowichan Valley Capitals and Nanaimo Clippers are in town.
