Putting Families First — the Grizzlies and Maxxam Insurance are making it happen
A partnership built on more than sponsorship — it’s a belief that every family deserves a night out together.
There’s a moment that happens at every Victoria Grizzlies game — a child leans on the glass for the first time, eyes wide, watching players race past at full speed. For thousands of West Shore families, that moment is completely free.
That’s the promise behind the Maxxam Youth Program: all local youth 18 and under get in for free when they attend with an adult, thanks to the generous support of Maxxam Insurance. It’s a simple idea with a powerful effect — removing the cost barrier that keeps too many families from experiencing live hockey together.
This season alone, over 4,100 young fans walked through the doors of the Q Centre without a ticket cost to their families — putting more than $41,000 back into the pockets of people right here in our community. Over the program’s two-year history, that number has grown to more than $77,000 in savings. That’s real money, returned to real families.
For the Grizzlies, the goal has always been bigger than wins and losses. The organization has set its sights on becoming the family entertainment hub of the West Shore — a place where parents and kids can share something exciting, affordable, and worth remembering. Few nights out can match the energy of live hockey at a fraction of what other entertainment costs. The Maxxam Youth Program makes that value even clearer.
None of it would be possible without a partner willing to invest in the community alongside the team. Maxxam Insurance didn’t just write a cheque — they made a statement about what matters in the West Shore. Their commitment has sent thousands of young fans home with stories, memories, and maybe a favourite player’s number scrawled on a program.
As the Grizzlies head into the future, the Maxxam Youth Program stands as one of the clearest expressions of what the organization believes: that sport has the power to bring families together, and that no family should be priced out of that experience. With Maxxam Insurance in their corner, the Grizzlies are making sure the West Shore’s kids always have a seat in the rink.
Your next chance to enjoy a family night out at the Q Centre is Tuesday, April 7th when the Grizzlies host Cowichan Valley in Game 3 of the opening round of the Rogers BCHL playoffs. Game time is 7:00 pm. BUY TICKETS HERE
