Victoria, BC ~ Saturday night will mark the one and only game of the weekend for the Grizzlies who will look to improve to a perfect 3-0 on the year against the Langley Rivermen at 7 pm from the Q Center in Colwood.
Victoria (15-12-5) is coming off a battle (quite literally) against the Nanaimo Clippers last Saturday which saw them fall in overtime 3-2 after erasing deficits twice. The Grizzlies sit at 4th in the Coastal Conference, trailing the Coquitlam Express by two points.
Langley (10-19-3) will look for revenge Saturday against a Grizzlies team that has had their number this season, with the last time these two squads met ending with Nate King’s overtime winner.
The Rivermen knocked Victoria from the playoffs last season and there appears to be some memory of that from the Grizz who have played the Rivermen tough this year having allowed just one goal through their two first meetings.
Victoria will be debuting their third Jerseys Saturday night with a new “Golden Look”. These jerseys will be worn three times this year with Saturday being the first, February 4th’s meeting with Penticton at the Q and finally on March 26th during Fan Appreciation Night.
With the NHL season hitting the halfway point, the NHL’s Central Scouting came out with their annual Mid Term Draft Rankings which saw the Grizzlies Hoyt Stanley land at 77th among North American born skaters.
Stanley, who leads Grizzlies defensemen in points with 21, not only leads the team in assists (20) but will be taking part in the BCHL’s Top Prospects game along with Victoria net minder Oliver Auyeung-Ashton on Friday January the 20th from the South Okanagan Events Center.
Saturday then marks the BCHL; Alumni Game, All Star Skills Competition and All Star Tournament from the Penticton Community Outdoor Rink. Get your tickets here.
