Special Teams Lead Rivermen Over Grizzlies

Langley, BC ~ The Langley Rivermen used two power play goals and two shorthanded goals to hand the Grizzlies their fourth straight loss on Saturday night from the George Preston Arena in Langley.

The Rivermen began the game with an edge and took the lead at 8:36 when Greye Rampton (6th) was able to bank a puck home from a bad angle. Davids Livsics would follow suit four minutes later on the power play when he cleaned up a rebound at the side of the net for his seventh.

Langley added insult to injury when Ryan Schelling (27th) scored a short handed goal at 16:53 to make it a first period 3-0 lead. Victoria however struck right back on the same man advantage 30 seconds later with Alex Hebblethwaite (16th) finishing a rebound chance.

In the second period Jackson Krill (13th) restored the Rivermen’s three goal lead on the power play at 4:07 giving Victoria quite the hole to dig out of.

Seamus Latta (12th) stole a puck in the Rivermen zone and ripped a wrist shot into the back of the net at 5:29 to pull them within two before Reegan Hiscock (26th) finished a feed from Chase Pirtle to make it a 4-3 Riv lead after forty minutes.

In the third period the Grizzlies would press but were unable to get a tying goal. Ryan Schelling’s second of the game came on a crazy ricochet at 17:31 putting them up by two and the game was sealed at 18:22 into an empty net by Sid McNeill (7th).

Ryan Schelling was named first star of the game while Dylan Johnson took home second star. Victoria’s Seamas Latta was named third star of the game.
