Prince George, BC ~ The Prince George Spruce Kings scored three power-play goals on Saturday night to defeat the Victoria Grizzlies 7-3 at the Kopar Memorial Arena in Prince George.
The Spruce Kings were up 2-0 before the halfway point of the first period, before Landen Ward (3rd) got the Grizzlies on the board with under four minutes left to have the visitors down by one after twenty minutes.
Victoria played a strong second period and tied the game at two when Levi Eiter (6th) finished off a two-on-one feed from Artur Gross. The Spruce Kings would get a late one, however, to lead by one at the end of the second.
The turning point of the game was when Landen Ward was assessed a five-minute major and game misconduct for slashing Evan Bellamy after the final buzzer of the second period.
The Spruce Kings scored twice in the ensuing power play to begin the third and the game was won and lost in that moment. They added two more in the next five minutes to make it 7-2 at that point before the 10 minute mark of the third.
Victoria got one back during a 5-on-3 powerplay from Landon Mackie (8th) as a consolation tally for a final score of 7-3.
Victoria is back in action next weekend on Friday in Alberni Valley before coming back home Saturday to host the Surrey Eagles.
