Victoria, BC ~ The Victoria Grizzlies fell 5-1 at the hands of the Surrey Eagles on Saturday night at the Q Centre in Colwood.
The Eagles had the advantage early in the contest, scoring on the power play at 7:14, before going up by two at 12:55, and Victoria was forced to play from behind in their own barn. Landon Mackie (9th) got them on the board with just over two minutes remaining in the first to cut the Surrey lead in half heading to the first intermission.
In the second, Surrey took the game to Victoria, who certainly didn’t have their best. The Eagles got three unanswered at 9:01, 11:52 and 16:44 to lead 5-1 at the second intermission.
There was no scoring in the third period, and Surrey rode the game out for their third win of the season.
Victoria falls to 14-13-0 on the season while Surrey improves to 3-21-3.
Casimir Weckstrom was pulled in the Grizzlies’ crease after allowing four goals on 16 shots, while Spencer Michnik came on in relief and stopped all but one of the 18 shots his way. Finn Marshall was very sharp for Surrey and allowed one goal on 35 Grizzlies shots.
The Grizzlies are back in action to close out their pre-Christmas scheduling on Friday night in Powell River before returning home the next day to host the Nanaimo Clippers.
