VICTORIA, B.C. — The Victoria Grizzlies are proud to announce that Montreal Canadiens draft pick Mikus Vecvanags will return to the organization for the 2026-27 BCHL season.
Vecvanags joined the Grizzlies in January and quickly established himself as one of the premier goaltenders in the BCHL. The 6’3” Latvian netminder posted a 10-6 record in 19 appearances during the regular season before elevating his game even further in the playoffs, recording an outstanding .935 save percentage in seven postseason appearances.
Selected in the 5th Round of the 2024 NHL Draft by the Montreal Canadiens, Vecvanags became a fan favourite in Victoria with his athletic style, calm presence under pressure, and ability to deliver in key moments during the playoffs.
The significance of Vecvanags’ return cannot be overstated for the Grizzlies organization heading into the 2026-27 season.
After navigating significant turnover in goal last season, the Grizzlies now enter the new campaign with a proven number one goaltender and a stabilizing force between the pipes.
“Mikus was exceptional for us from the moment he arrived,” said Grizzlies Head Coach & General Manager Geoff Grimwood. “He gave our group confidence every night and proved he can perform in big moments. To have a goaltender of his calibre returning is massive for our organization.”

Vecvanags’ return gives the Grizzlies one of the BCHL’s top returning goaltenders and provides a major cornerstone piece as Victoria continues building toward the 2026-27 season.
Fans will have their first opportunity to see Vecvanags back in Grizzlies colours this fall at the Q Centre as the club prepares for what is expected to be one of the most anticipated seasons in recent franchise history.
