Victoria, BC ~ The Victoria Grizzlies host the Cowichan Valley Capitals this evening at 6:00 p.m., fresh off a resounding 3-1 win over the Nanaimo Clippers last night in Nanaimo.
Victoria’s win last night was certainly a sight for sore eyes, following a weekend when they went 0/2 against Alberni and Chilliwack; that one felt desperately needed. Alberni Valley was also victorious last night, meaning that Victoria maintains a three-point deficit to the Bulldogs in the playoff positioning while continuing to hold a game in hand.
The Grizzlies are now back to .500, sitting at 21-21-2 at the start of play tonight. They are 6-4-0 in their last ten while riding a month-long stretch that has seen their performances improve by a significant margin. The additions of Carter Oakenfold, Maddux Martin, Carson Lesiuk, and Mikus Vecvanags have all been pivotal moments and seemingly changed the culture in the dressing room to one of pride and work ethic.
They have their hands full this evening against the league-leading Cowichan Valley Capitals, who are 35-9-3. The good news is that Victoria is the squad that has given them the most trouble this season. So far, the season series is tied at two apiece. Cowichan was also victorious last night, holding off the Chilliwack Chiefs 3-2, improving their record in the month of February to 7-1-0.
