Geoff Grimwood Returns To Island As Victoria Grizzlies Assistant Coach

 

Victoria, BC  ~ Have coaching career, will travel. Geoff Grimwood has seen more benches than a park. Only, his have been in rinks. The Victoria Grizzlies of the B.C. Hockey League have rounded out their coaching staff by adding the well-travelled Grimwood as an assistant coach.

Grimwood was head coach of the Kamloops Storm last season, a Junior B team in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League. That was just the latest in a long line of stops for Grimwood, who has also been head coach of the West Kelowna Warriors of the BCHL, head coach and GM of the Swan Valley Stampeders of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, head coach and GM of the Kindersley Klippers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League for three seasons and assistant coach of the Winkler Flyers of the MJHL.

Grimwood resigned as head coach and GM of the Cowichan Valley Capitals on the eve of the start of the 2020-21 BCHL preseason, without coaching a game in Duncan, over what he termed “ethical and philosophical differences with ownership.”

Grimwood, also second assistant coach for three seasons with the Royals in the Western Hockey League during the Dave Lowry tenure in Victoria, will join Suneil Karod as Grizzlies assistant coaches this season.

“Geoff Grimwood brings a ton of experience, including in the BCHL and with the Royals, and has worked with Suneil [Karod] before,” said Grizzlies head coach and GM Rylan Ferster.

“We’re really happy about this appointment.”

Ferster said his bench will take a holistic approach when it comes to the breakdown of duties.

“Geoff, Suneil and I all bring different things to the table and it will be team approach,” he said.

The Grizzlies open training camp Sept. 2 at the Juan de Fuca Arena.
