GRIZZLIES BEATEN IN OVERTIME

Brett Supinski’s goal with one second remaining in the second overtime propelled the Coquitlam Express to a 3-2 win over the visiting Victoria Grizzlies in B.C. Hockey League play on Friday night.

Brett Gruber had scored a pair of power-play goals for the Grizzlies as they rebounded from a 2-0 deficit to force the extra sessions. His first came at 19:19 of the second period, before knotting it up at 7:30 of the third.

Brendan Lamont had a pair for the Express, opening the scoring at 17:56 of the first period on a two-man advantage for the hosts, then adding his second on a penalty shot at 14:55 of the second.

With the OT loss, the Grizzlies slip to 14-10-1-6 as the team now has points in its last six games. Victoria was coming off a 2-2 tie with Cowichan Valley on Tuesday. The Express improve to 12-17-1-4 with the win.

It was a second straight goaltending duel. Mike Stiliadis handled the netminding duties for Victoria as he made 34 saves. Braden Krogfoss made a whopping 44 stops for Coquitlam.

The Grizzlies move on to Langley tonight at 7 p.m.

“Langley is an exciting barn to play in, one of the nicer ones like ours so I know the guys will be excited for the matchup,” Grizzlies head coach and general manager Craig Didmon said before departing on the three-game road trip.

“I think with Langley we need to come out in the first 10 minutes and show them that just because we played Friday night, doesn’t mean we’re going to show a different performance,” said Grizzlies forward Cole Pickup.
