GRIZZLIES EDGE OUT EAGLES

VICTORIA 2 SURREY 1

The Fitzgerald triplets left their mark on the Surrey Eagles on Saturday night.

Gerry Fitzgerald's second goal of the game, on a power play at 8: 31 of the third period, led the Victoria Grizzlies to a 2-1 win over the visiting Eagles at Bear Mountain Arena.

Brothers Leo and Myles Fitzgerald added two assists apiece.

Mike Stiliadis earned his second straight win in goal, stopping 27 shots for Victoria. With Brady Rouleau out with an injury, Stiliadis plucked nearly everything the Eagles threw his way.

Brady Shaw's wicked slapshot – top corner on the glove side – was the only shot to elude Stiliadis. That came at 15: 21 of second period.

Gerry Fitzgerald opened the scoring just 3: 22 in for the Grizzlies, who were coming off an impressive 3-2 win in Powell River the night before. Showing tired legs through the second period, the hosts came to life in the final 20 minutes.

"It was a long day, playing a team that was fresher than us tonight, but we did what we needed to do to win," said Grizzlies general manager Bill Bestwick.

"This team is starting to believe in itself and come together as a team that dislikes losing.

"You see it when we lose a game and come back and win a couple. They don't like losing and they proved it the last two games."

The victory snapped Surrey's four-game win streak and leaves the Grizzlies in first place in the Island Division with a record of 19-8-0-2. They'll be back at it on Friday as Prince George visits Victoria at 7: 15 p.m.
