Langley, BC ~ The Victoria Grizzlies used a late game winner from Landon Mackie to defeat the Langley Rivermen 3-2 and improve to 16-9-4 on the season.
The Rivermen jumped out to a lead in first period on a powerplay goal eight and a half minutes into the frame. Just over two minutes later Julian Cull flung a puck to the goal and it squeaked through the five hole of Bodee Weiss (Langley’s goaltender) to tie the game after 20.
Victoria took the lead in the second after a long five on three power play goal from captain Jacksenn Hungle for his eighth for the season.
Langley tied the game in the third after another power play goal but the Grizzlies would not be denied and it was Landon Mackie firing a shot top shelf to take the lead with a minute and a half to go in the game. Mackie’s goal is his fourth in three games and seventh point in three games.
With the win, the Grizzlies jump to fourth in the Coastal Conference with 36 points while holding a game in hand on the third play Cowichan Valley Capitals who lead by one point. Victoria’s win was also marked by all three goal scorers being Victoria natives for a nice nod to their local talent.
The Grizzlies are back in action on the 3rd of January at home for a meeting with the Coquitlam Express. Get your tickets now by clicking here to see the Grizzlies back at home for the first time since the break.
