Drew Hockley Commits To Quinnipiac

Victoria, BC ~ Grizzlies defenseman, Drew Hockley, announced on Monday afternoon that he has committed to play at Quinnipiac University in the NCAA.

This announcement follows a dominant opening two weekends for the Grizzlies 19 year old defenseman who leads all BCHL skaters with nine points through four games. He also leads all BCHL defenseman in goals (5) and points (9). Hockley has registered a powerplay goal and three powerplay assists.

“This means the worlds to me,” said Hockley when asked about this news. “It is something I have worked toward for a long time. It certainly wouldn’t be possible without the help of everyone in the organization as well as friends, family, advisor and everyone else along the way. I am also pumped for a great year with the Grizzlies and continue to put in the work everyday.”

This marks Drew’s second year with the Grizzlies and it is safe to say that his development has been clear. Last year Hockley registered one goal and five points with limited ice time through 44 games. However, Drew improved week by week as the year went on and was a regular in the Grizzlies D-core during the 2024 playoffs.

The Kentville, Nova Scotia native has been paired with Grizzlies new comer; Oscar Pantzare through the early portion of the 2024-25 schedule and the duo has been lights out together. Pantzare had a memorable fight in the Grizzlies home opener and a highlight reel assist on Saturday night against Cowichan. Hockley’s signature performance of the young season was in the Victoria home opener on Friday night` against Alberni Valley where he scored two goals and added two assists for good measure.

“We are really excited to see Drew commit to Quinnipiac,” said Geoff Grimwood the Grizzlies Director of Player Personnel and Associate Coach. “From day one Drew has been one of the most committed and improved players. He shows a ton of dedication on and off the ice and he’s earned this opportunity. We could not be happier for Drew and his family.”

Victoria hits the road this coming week with stop in Nanaimo on Friday and Alberni Valley on Saturday, before returning home a week later on Saturday the 12th of October for a matchup with the Trail Smoke Eaters.
