Victoria, B.C. — The Victoria Grizzlies have completed a major trade with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks, acquiring Maddux Martin and future considerations in exchange for Landon Mackie.
The transaction involves two highly respected leaders, both hometown players and captains of their respective clubs.
Martin, a Salmon Arm native and captain of the Silverbacks, arrives in Victoria after establishing himself as a key producer in his hometown. Known for his pace, competitiveness, and leadership presence, Martin brings proven BCHL experience, having played in 179 regular-season BCHL games and an additional 36 playoff games.
Mackie, a Victoria product and captain of the Grizzlies, heads to Salmon Arm.
A trusted teammate and consistent performer, Mackie has represented the Grizzlies with professionalism and pride, and now takes on an exciting opportunity in Salmon Arm.
Grizzlies Head Coach and General Manager Geoff Grimwood commented on the difficulty in making a trade of this nature. “Landon has been a big part of our program for the last three plus years. Coming in as an affiliated player, eventually earning an NCAA Division 1 scholarship, and becoming our Captain speaks to his commitment and dedication as a player. Collectively, we have come to a decision where Landon will benefit from a fresh start in Salmon Arm, and we wish every success as his career moves forward”.
For Victoria, acquiring Martin adds an established top-end player and leader. “We are very excited to add a player like Maddux Martin. He is not the typical player that becomes available, and we believe he will have a significant impact on our team. He is highly regarded throughout the BCHL as a leader and a character player. He plays with a ton of grit and passion, and we can’t wait to get him started”. said Grimwood.
Both organizations acknowledged the emotional element of the move and emphasized mutual respect throughout the process.
“These trades only happen when there is trust on both sides,” David Michaud, Grizzlies President, added. “Salmon Arm is a first-class organization. Both teams are gaining players who will help them, and both players are getting a fresh opportunity to lead and succeed before beginning their NCAA careers next season.”
The Victoria Grizzlies thank Landon Mackie for his leadership and commitment to the organization and wish him the very best as he continues his BCHL career in Salmon Arm. The club also looks forward to welcoming Maddux to Victoria as he begins the final chapter of his junior career with the Grizzlies.
Martin will be in the line-up wearing number 28 on Friday night for the Grizzlies Retro Salsa night when they host Prince George at 7:00 pm
