Port Alberni, BC ~ The Victoria Grizzlies defeated the Alberni Valley Bulldogs 4-2 on Friday night at the Alberni Valley Multiplex in Port Alberni.
Victoria fell behind in the first 35 seconds of the game but quickly responded thanks to Owen Warnick’s eighth tally of the season two minutes later.
Sam Rousseau (15th) gave Victoria a lead just past the 12 minute mark of the second before Artur Gross (8th) added a power play marker two minutes later. 40 seconds after Victoria established that multi goal advantage, Alberni cut the lead back to one heading into the third period at 3-2 for the visitors.
Victoria locked things down in the third and Sam Rousseau (16th) added his second of the game into an empty night. That sealed the deal at 4-2 when the final buzzer went.
Casimir Weckström was splendid in the Grizzlies goal, making 33 saves on 35 shots for his first BCHL win.
Victoria improved to 14-12-0 on the season, leapfrogging the Bulldogs in the division standings in the process.
The Grizzlies are back in action tomorrow night at the Q Centre in Colwood against the Surrey Eagles with puck drop at 6:00 p.m.
